Self-inducted mismatch

Free climber seen from above

When I was a teenager and ignorantly naive, it allowed me to just go ahead with things without fear. With age and a few failures later, I started using my experience to become more strategic about my efforts. It led to optimising my time, my capacities and my career. The problem was that nobody told me when to stop optimising. Until I found myself in a place where everything was, well optimally optimised. I had created a safe and very predictable environment. As a fairly high performance and competitive individual, that didn’t suit my appetite for discovery and feeling challenged at all. It took me years to gain that awareness and just as many years to add back ingredients that made me feel alive and growing again.
What has your experience been with optimising? How much healthy craziness do you need in your life?
